Natalie + Graeme Hopetoun Alpha Wedding | Ivelina Velkova | Auckland Wedding & Portrait Photographer

Meet Mr and Mrs Bryce. Their wedding was a perfect reflection of the values these two awesome people share. It was a celebration of their love, the community of family and friends who bind them together and the love of God which is the foundation of their marriage. Many of the beautiful details of the wedding were made possible by the talents of Graeme and Natalie’s friends and family.

Gorgeous wedding bands were hand-crafted by a long-time friend, who also designed and created Natalie’s engagement ring. The pots of colourful flowers used as centerpieces and to line the aisle were hand-grown by Natalie’s grandparents. The gorgeous bouquets and butonholes were created by another talented friend, Ruth Riding. Family friends rallied together to put on a beautiful home-made spread for an afternoon tea in the front courtyard following the ceremony. Melissa, Natalie’s gorgeous Maid-of-Honour hand-carved the wooden cross used as the center altar-piece. Close friends polished up their respective Rolls-Royce and Mercedes to use as the bridal cars. Another friend, Marina, crafted an absolute masterpiece of a wedding cake, with a second smaller cake for the bride and groom’s special dietary needs! Home-brew rum and whisky brewed by another clever friend were served at the open bar for the reception, alongside exquisite cocktail food from Rob at Divine Morsels catering. (another friend to the bride!) Not to mention the many signs, candles, S’mores bar for dessert and photoboard created by the couple themselves. And last, but not least, the entire day – from the ceremony set-up, to the reception arrangement, to waitressing and clean-up – was managed by several of the couples amazing friends and members of their church youthgroup. This was an amazing and unique opportunity for their friends and family to really be a part of celebrations as Graeme and Natalie became husband and wife.

There is a further hand-crafted detail that cannot be overlooked… the stunning wedding dress. Over the course of the few months leading up the wedding, the bride designed and hand-sewed the gown. The result was a gown in a delicate antique gold tone, with Alecon lace which seemed to wind up from the base of the train and around the bodice. Beaded lace was overlayed around the bodice and train, giving a subtle sparkle as the bride moved. She also sewed part of the bridesmaids outfits – the slips they wore under their lace dresses.

Both the wedding ceremony and reception were held at the beautiful Hopetoun Alpha in Auckland Central. This venue made for the perfect back drop to the promises Graeme and Natalie made to each other in marriage. Natalie loves beautiful ornate buildings which tell the tales of days gone by and, as Hopetoun was originally a church, satisfied their joint desire to marry in a sacred space.

The ceremony, officated by the coupl’es close friend and church pastor, was a touching event. The handwritten vows were a real highlight. As the bride and groom shared their first kiss as husband and wife cheers rang from the crowd. Following the ceremony, an afternoon tea was served in the front courtyard as guests basked in the sunshine of one of the last Autumn days for the year. Shortly afterward, the bridal party snuck off for their photos. They were lucky enough to gain access to the gorgeous heriatge building immediately next door. This building boasted an ornate internal courtyard with climbing ivy, tinged red with the first cool nights of late Autumn. Even more perfect for the groom (a firefighter), was the building’s original purpose as the very first Auckland City firestation. Returning to the venue for their cocktail reception, the bridal party entered to more cheers from their friends and family. An evening of celebration, laughter, delightful speeches and dancing ensued, before the new Mr & Mrs were ushered out in a shower of confetti.

The photographs reflect the natural and genuine love the bride and groom have for each other and whisper of an urban fairytale love story.
